History

This Authority was established on 03.02.2000 and its basic objectives were to improve and upgrade the information technology related knowledge of officers in Western Provincial Council Public Service, providing technological facilities and consultancy services to Provincial Public Institutions. Initially, short courses based on information technology were conducted to officers serving in provincial public institutions and teachers. Measures have also been taken to provide facilities required to conduct residential and non-residential training courses to external institutions other than the provincial council institutions. Initial preliminary courses were conducted by external lecturer panel. Two Lecturers in Computer Science and 14 Computer Instructors were deployed for computer training instruction affairs. For this task, Project Officers serving in the Provincial Department of Education and Teachers were attached to the Authority to provide service, whereas, several Computer Instructors were recruited to the Authority on temporary basis. An Acting Director and Administrative Officers to maintain administrative affairs, also, Storekeepers, three Clerks and three Office Assistant Employees engaged in service in the Authority as its staff. At the initial stage, a computer laboratory with 54 computers, two computer laboratories with 20 computers in each, one laboratory with 10 computers and a lecture hall comprising seating capacity of 100 were utilized for training affairs.
